Gonna have me some good friends around, Gonna have me some good times in town

January 10th, 2012

February 10th we’ll be celebrating the release of Spectra Spirit in Detroit, MI at the Magic Stick, in the Lounge. Besides sharing the night with our good friends (and awesome bands) Duende! and Bad Indians, we’re really excited to have Dead Leaf Echo from New York joining us. Dead Leaf Echo were just recently selected by Deli Mag (NYC) as one of the best New York psych/shoegaze bands of 2011. Admission for the show will be $8.00 and it is All Ages. See you there!

In other news, we’ve recently signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Ghost Town and we’re thrilled to be working with them. They are based out of LA and their roster includes great artists such as Ty Segall, Mirah, Sleepy Sun, Tally Hall, and Pelican. I think this means you’ll hear one of our songs in a Forever 21 commercial soon (No, it doesn’t).

The reception for Spectra Spirit so far has really been positive — thanks to everyone that has picked up a copy of the LP, come out to see us play, posted a review of the record, played us on their radio show or podcast, or just downloaded the free files and shared them with your friends. We really appreciate all the support and hope to keep the momentum going through 2012. The album has made a few “Best of 2011″ lists and tracks from it have received radio play not just in the US (2), but in Australia (2), France (2), Greece, New Zealand, and Portugal, and online from Beyond Beyond Is Beyond (East Village Radio), Stone the Show (Downtuned Radio) and Perpetual Winter Productions.

If you’re looking for options on where to purchase Spectra Spirit, our label New Fortune Records has copies for sale. Also, both of the albums are available at Entheo Sound Records, a cool new US-based online store that specializes in psychedelic records and art. Our first, self-titled LP is almost sold out, so make sure that you get your copy before they’re gone.

Finally, we’d like to take a moment to thank Yiannis at Sound Effect Records in Athens, Greece. We’ve sent so many copies of our records to his store that we think he may actually be using them to re-shingle the place. If you live near Athens, swing by the shop and check out the huge selection of our two albums (and a lot of other cool imports), or contact him for a mail order catalogue: 30 Zaimi Street 10683 – Athens, Greece.

Thanks again to everyone that has been checking us out and telling their friends. We look forward to a busy 2012!

I am the sun, I am the New Year

December 2nd, 2011

We’ve got a couple shows coming up around the end of the year for our friends in Southeast Michigan:

First we’ll be at Woodruff’s Bar in Ypsilanti, MI on Thursday, December 29th as part of Mittenfest VI, an annual benefit concert for 826michigan. We’ve hung out at the past few Mittenfests, so we’re stoked to finally be able to play. We go on at 7:30pm, but you should get there early – these shows sell out every year. Doors open at 4pm, music goes until 2am. Tickets are $10 at the door and all profits go to 826michigan, 21+.

Then we’ll be kicking off New Year’s Eve at The Magic Stick in Detroit with Detroit Cobras, K.I.D.S., and Amy Gore & Her Valentines. This will be our third time playing NYE at the Magic Stick, so it’s practically a tradition at this point. This will also sell out so, again, make sure to come early. Doors will open at 8pm, we go on around 9. Tickets are $15.00 in advance, All Ages.

Also, keep your calendars clear on February 10th for our Detroit LP release party / Psychedelic Supper II at the Magic Stick. More details (very) soon!

In the Air

November 15th, 2011

Thursday, Nov. 17! Set your alarms for 1pm to catch us live on Beyond Beyond Is Beyond, in advance of that evening’s show at The Charleston in Brooklyn. BBIB is broadcast from noon to 2pm every Thursday on East Village Radio (EVR) in NYC, and we are thrilled to be able to bring a little Spirit to their studios. Check the link above for archived shows or visit Mike’s blog to check out some more cool music. To listen to EVR’s internet stream, click the “Listen Live” link in the upper-left corner of their page.

In other news, more great reviews have been coming in for Spectra Spirit. The first comes from our friend Ryan over at Revolt of the Apes. We were really looking forward to Ryan’s take on the new album, and are excited to be selected as his “Band of the Week”. Elsewhere, Dan over at Ongakubaka has a cool short review of the album, and Mr. Atavist, who spun ‘Black Mind’ on his radio show a couple weeks ago, came down to post his thoughts on the album as well, referring to it as “like trying to grab smoke”.

Oh, also, we haven’t really advertised it, but we’re also on Twitter. Follow us over there and we’ll work on figuring out what to do with it.
